Martin A. Crowley Announces Candidacy for Woonsocket School Committee
Woonsocket, RI – Martin A. Crowley has officially announced his candidacy for the Woonsocket School Committee. Crowley is running to improve educational outcomes, build better school culture through increasing safety for students and teachers, and ensure that students, families, and educators have a stronger voice in district decision-making.
Martin A. Crowley has devoted his life to education, athletics, and community service. The son of longtime educator Martin P. Crowley Jr., he lives in Woonsocket with his wife, Jill Olson-Crowley. Together, they are the proud parents of Ashton and Ryan and grandparents to Riley. His brother, William Crowley, continues the family legacy of public service as Deputy Fire Chief in the City of Woonsocket.
For the past 27 years, Crowley has served the Cumberland School District, where he is now in his fifth year as an administrator and Athletic Director. He currently serves as President of the Rhode Island Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (RIIAAA), participates in the statewide Principals’ Committee on Athletics, and works closely with school leaders across Rhode Island to support students, academic programs, and extracurricular opportunities.
Crowley’s coaching career spans more than three decades, with leadership roles in basketball, cross country, and softball at schools including Cumberland, Burrillville, Cranston West, Attleboro, and King Philip. His coaching achievements have been recognized with multiple statewide Coach of the Year awards, the Alice Sullivan Award for contributions to girls’ athletics,
induction into the Cumberland High Athletic Hall of Fame, and a Lifetime Achievement Award for service to Rhode Island girls’ sports.
Crowley has also been engaged in community service, contributing to local initiatives including the Downtown Woonsocket Collaborative, the Levitt AMP Music Series, and Beloved Woonsocket. He has a working relationship with Mayor Beauchamp and City Council members, which he plans to build upon to collaborate with all elected and appointed officials to move Woonsocket forward in a unified way.
“I feel extremely grateful and humbled to have the opportunity to represent the community I love,” said Crowley. “Woonsocket students deserve stability. Our teachers deserve respect. Our families deserve a voice in the decisions that impact them. If elected, I will work collaboratively and transparently to strengthen our schools and ensure accountability to the people we serve.”
Crowley emphasized that his priorities focus on:
Improving academic outcomes and learning supports
Strengthening safety and behavioral systems for students and teachers
Increasing trust, communication, and transparency with families
Maintaining stability and reducing leadership turnover
Centering decision-making on students first
“Woonsocket does not need to search outside its borders for leadership,” Crowley said. “We have committed, qualified people right here who are ready to serve. I am asking for your vote to help me get to work on advancing education in Woonsocket. Thank you.”
